HISTORICALLY QUESTIONABLE

(These are all unsubstantiated, just my thoughts, who knows.)


Truman Dewey June 24, 2007

I grew up with the story that Truman beat Dewey at the last minute for the presidency. It makes sense that this may have been a created win. The Democrats had come off of many years of control and success. The Republicans were weak. This would have made it easy to change the numbers. I have not yet checked the date but I think after this election an amendment was passed to limit the number of years a person could be president. It seems this may have been required so this could not happen again. They claimed it was to limit the number of years because of Roosevelt having so many terms. It may instead be to prevent one party from controlling elections by having been in power for many years. Eisenhower then ran as a Republican perhaps to save the two party system. He could have ran under the party that he chose.
