Roman Catholic Church and 2000 Years of War

Think of Scientology for a few minutes as a new religion. Many of us are saying negative things and thinking negative thoughts about the members and followers of Scientology. Tom Cruse appears to be a focal point of this expression and many want him to personally suffer for his beliefs.

My mother lives in Clearwater, Florida where the headquarters of Scientology resides. Many members come from all over the world to learn and share their beliefs. I called them and asked if I could come over and learn about their beliefs. I explained that I knew nothing about Scientology and I was interested in learning about them. They were open to this idea and I was asked to come one evening. At this time I had a very dedicated and charming woman answer all my questions and show me around for several hours.

I explained that my research and thinking is interested in storytelling and how our followed alpha and omega story impacts all our lives. I was explicate that I really knew almost nothing of what Scientology holds as their beliefs and their forms of ritual.

Wake Up and The World Has Changed

I use the Scientology example above to make the point about the world changing for a large number of people in an instant. In Rome the Emperor Theodosius in 381 decided that from that time on Christianity would be the state religion. He had all the artifacts of the earlier Roman religion removed. It would be like tomorrow everyone must be Scientologists. If people refused to agree the punishments would be swift and brutal. We can imagine that almost no one even knew what Christian meant to the vast majority of people under Roman Rule. We can also imagine that there would be a vast amount of overt and covert resistance. It is easy to speculate that many saw this as a chance to grab power and destroy those that had attained  previous position of power in society. Disruption, fear, and loss must have been very difficult for the great masses of people for many years.

 This action by the Emperor would initially have little to do with the specific creeds of Christianity.  Each city and their Bishops had the freedom to determine creeds. To centralize power and creeds within Christianity a battle rose that ended with the centralize power through the Theodosian Code under the Emperor and Rome. The central authority now declared other views of Christianity as hearsay.

Kill The Non Believers

From my perspective believers are those that are followers of a particular alpha and omega story. As I have stated may times our tolerance for other stories is minimal. As long as followers of another story are allowed to remain viable conflict is inevitable. The differences in stories may varry from subtle to obvious but it will end in conflict.
